Engaging seniors and older adults with simple games

A short game can make shared time more playful. Start with comfortable moves, a clearly visible screen and a pace chosen by the player.

Gentler ways to begin

Bubble Pop uses hand movements to pop bubbles; Orchard Walking combines walking in place with reaching; Upstream uses swimming-style arm strokes. These are starting suggestions, not accessibility guarantees: each person should choose moves that feel safe and manageable.

For a slower, turn-based activity, take turns holding shapes in Shape Wall or invite a family member to play while others watch and cheer.

Make the setup comfortable

  • Use a large, easy-to-see display and good room lighting.
  • Keep the camera stable and position it to see the movement a game requires.
  • Clear nearby furniture and avoid movements that cause discomfort or imbalance.
  • Choose the first level and pause or stop whenever the player wants.

Some games need standing, squatting or jumping. They may be unsuitable for people with limited mobility or balance concerns. MoveToPlayGames is entertainment, not a rehabilitation or medical program.

Play together

A family member can help with camera permission, calibration and selecting a game. Use the setup guide for a browser, or read about Android TV play with a phone camera. Start with a few minutes, talk about what was fun, and let the player decide whether to continue.
